Getting Started

Dress

Tango is an elegant dance and it is a courtesy to your partners to dress nicely. Most Tangueras/Tangueros dress in dark colours and use slightly more dressy styles than they would normally wear. Tango is meant to be sexy, elegant and sophisticated so go for it!

Shoes

It is very important to wear shoes that slide easily on a wooden floor. There is a lot of pivoting in tango and shoes that have too much traction, like sneakers, will "stick" on the floor and prevent ease of movement. The shoes should not be too tight or too loose. Womens' shoes should have ankle or instep straps to give good support to the foot.

Hygiene

Tango is an intimate dance so good hygiene is essential for a pleasant experience. Use a light touch with the aftershave and perfume. Some people are sensitive to them. Avoid strongly flavoured foods just before a class or a Milonga. Breath fresheners can be useful to have on hand.

Tango Courtesies

Take a few moments to become acquainted with the basics of how to behave on the dance floor. Consideration of others is at the heart of the Tango experience. It is also the key to safety on the dance floor.

Classes

There are classes nearly every day, see the weekly class guide.
